Information Helpline Service
The DRE provide a free and confidential information service on disability related issues, including: blue badge information, mobility, transport, access, holidays, leisure activities and generally anything that affects a disabled persons ability to be independent.
Access Audits
We provide an access audit service to professional bodies, our experienced volunteers can provide access audits. The DRE also provides free walk-through audits to local Charity’s and Community groups. Over the last few years the DRE have received many requests for consultation regarding WREN (Waste Recycling environmental Ltd) funding applications for improving access to community and parish halls.
We are currently working with Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust at Leighton Hospital to improve access for all.
Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council have enlisted our help to ensure car parks have enough accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities. Work is ongoing regarding the redevelopment of Crewe Town Centre and the DRE are being consulted over access to all public areas. Past audits have seen the DRE working with South Cheshire College, Crewe Alexandra Football Club, and many local businesses.
Planning Applications
The DRE currently inspect plans submitted to the Borough Council Planning Office that involve the general public in access to the built environment. We make recommendations to ensure that building plans conform to Part M Building Regulations and BS 8300 Standards for Accessibility.
Disability Awareness Training
Disability Awareness is something the DRE actively promotes. Our ability to offer training relies heavily on the number of volunteers currently involved in the organisation.
